Cada voluntário tem de arranjar o seu próprio alojamento e forma de viver durante o tempo que se está a trabalhar em Calcutá (as Missionárias da Caridade não interferem nesta parte!).

Marcar hotel - ou guest house - (de preferência um minimamente bom para os primeiros dias, pois quando se chega o choque pode ser grande e é melhor dormir num sítio com algumas condições).

A Sudder Street é a rua onde os voluntários costumam ficar e há várias guest houses a preços muito baratos (por exemplo, a 3€ por noite). Costumam ter diferentes tipos de quarto (single, double, dormitory) com e sem AC. Aconselho quartos com ar condicionado, pois afastam os mosquitos (de qualquer maneira, sugiro levar sempre rede mosquiteira).

Hotel Maria (5, Sudder St, Colootola, New Market Area, Dharmatala, Taltala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700016, Índia; +91 33 2252 0860). Tem um terraço mas tem muitas baratas e ratos e as condições não são muito boas mas custa 2€ por noite.

Estes são os três que conheço melhor (porque conheci voluntários que viviam nestes sítios). Ficam em New Market, uma zona muito movimentada, mais ou menos a 15 minutos a pé da Motherhouse.

A casa onde fiquei era incrível! Baptist Missionary Society (BMS - https://bmskolkata.org/). Fica a um minuto da Motherhouse, tem ótimas condições e o meu quarto custava 6€ por noite (para quatro pessoas, sem ar condicionado). Fazem limpeza diariamente, mudam as camas semanalmente, as casas de banho são como as europeias e tem água quente (sim, apesar do calor, é muito agradável!). Nunca vi um bicho! Nem baratas, nem ratos, nem mosquitos. Tem segurança 24h - o grande Robin - , pequeno almoço (almoço e jantar por mais poucas rupias - com o inconveniente de ser sempre o mesmo: chicken curry ou veg curry) e um supermercado a dois minutos a pé. Importante: tem Wi-Fi! As pessoas são simpatiquíssimas e tive sorte com os voluntários porque eram todos impecáveis. É sem dúvida o sítio que recomendo.

Independentemente do alojamento, convém mandar um e-mail com alguma antecedência para reservar quarto (isto porque há alturas em que tudo fica cheio e é difícil arranjar casa).

Each volunteer has to get their own accommodation as well as a way of living throught out the time they are staying in Calcutta (the Missionaries of Charity don't interfere in this part!)

Schedule a hotel - or guest house - (a good one for the first days, since the shock can be big when you arrive and it's best if you sleep in a place with the minimum conditions).

Sudder Street is where volunteers tend to stay and there are several guest houses with cheap prices (3€ a night, for example). They usually have different types of rooms (single, double, dormitory) with and without AC. My advice is to get a room with AC because it keeps the mosquitos away (either way I suggest taking a mosquito net with you).

Hotel Maria (5, Sudder St, Colootola, New Market Area, Dharmatala, Taltala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700016, Índia; +91 33 2252 0860). It has a terrace but also it has lots of cockroaches and mice and the conditions are not that good, but it costs 2€ a night.

These are the three that I know best (because I met volunteers who lived in these places). They are located in New Market, a very busy area, 15 minutes away from the Motherhouse.

The house where I stayed was amasing. Baptist Missionary Society (BMS - https://bmskolkata.org/). It is a minute away from the Motherhouse, it has great conditions and my bedroom was 6€ a night (for four people, with no AC). They clean up everyday, change the beds on a weekly basis (I guess), the bathrooms are like the european ones (minus the bathtubes/shower) and they have hot water (yes, despite the heat it is very pleasant). I never saw a bug! Neither cockroaches, mice or mosquitos. They have 24h security - the great (and big) Robin -, serve breakfast (as well as lunch and dinner for some more rupees - with the inconvenient of being always the same: chicken or veg curry) and a supermarket two minutes away. Important: it has Wi-Fi! The people are extremely nice and helpful and I was very lucky because the volunteers were all very friendly. It is definatly the place I recommend.

Whatever accommodation you choose, I strongly advise you to send an e-mail booking your room in advance. There are times when it's very hard to find a place to stay.
